Many of the property crime offenders in Multnomah County steal to support their addictions. To break this cycle of addiction, and lower property crime victimization, we need to provide effective drug treatment options along with accountability for criminal behavior. The Service Coordination Team model and Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion are two innovative programs Mike has supported as both a Chief of Police and as Sheriff. These programs are designed to provide services such as case management, treatment and housing so that people can become productive members of our community.
The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office is also working with Volunteers of America in a treatment readiness jail dormitory to assist inmates in recovering from their addiction. This will better prepare them for re-entry into our community.
